5.0 out of 5 stars Best Flavor Combinations - Plus Which Candies WON'T Work, December 13, 2010

Whether you can enjoy candies with sugar, or are diabetic, here are flavor combos and suggestions plus what you CAN'T use.

First off, here is what WON'T work with this machine:

* Skittles, Lemonheads or Boston Baked Beans
* Hot Tamales or Ike & Mikes
* Gummy Bears or Worms
* Gumballs or Round Candy
* Citrus Slices or Starburst
* Anything chewy, gummy or with too much cream

For best results, use no more than two pieces of candy (so it spins faster), but you can also cut/break candy into halves. One piece of candy on one side of the spinner, and two halves opposite that for better flavor combinations.

Good candy choices include Lifesavers (fruit, Hawaiian Fruit, Fruiteria, butter rum) but not their Mints (won't fluff), Werther's Original & Chocolate Hard Candies, Butterscotch, Cinnamon Discs, Peppermints, and Coffee (but not Nips). Brach's Soda Poppers (Root Beer, 7UP, Dr. Pepper, Orange Crush)... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely SWEET!!!, August 16, 2010

My cotton candy maker arrived 6 days ago and I've used it every day since.

I heated it up for about 8 minutes before adding the sugar/candy, and the floss appeared about a minute after that. Since there were a lot of kids lined up to test the results, the two plastic cones that come with it weren't nearly enough to go around so we used thin 12" long wooden dowel rods which you can get at a craft store for about 5 cents each.

Before you make your first batch, you may want to watch some clips on making cotton candy on youtube. There is a certain technique to it but once you get the hang of it it's very easy.

We had it running, on and off, for about an hour as we tried different flavors and candies. The motor kept going strong the whole time. Make sure it's on a stable surface because the kids will want to lean in as far as they can to watch it.

It works with both hard candy and the sugar cotton candy mixes like Flossine. We found... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars My Pros and cons, October 27, 2010

This review is from: Nostalgia Electrics PCM-805 Hard & Sugar-Free Candy Cotton Candy Maker (Kitchen)
This is an AMAZING cotton candy machine and I'm very satisfied with it; however there are good and bad things about it, such as:
Pro:
-You can also use floss or regular sugar (just use the measuring cup that comes with it, no more than that) and it makes alot more than the hard candy would
-If you use hard candy cotton candy it starts coming out immediately and fast, but if you use sugar you have to wait about a minute before it starts coming out. It makes a big ball in about 1-2 minutes
-It heats up quick and makes little to no noise and doesn't vibrate around like other cotton candy machines
-It takes only 3-5 minutes, at most, to set all of it up
-Sugar and floss doesn't fly out everywhere
-comes with two reusable cones
-Fairly easy to clean up
Cons:
-the hard candy(I used jolly ranchers) doesn't work so well.The cotton candy isn't fluffy and I believe it tastes awful
-Instruction booklet was a bit vague... Read more
