5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product -- BUT know what they are for, December 16, 2009

A quick primer because the other reviewer seems confused. These are NOT ice cubes. They have one very specific purpose, putting a SLIGHT chill on straight whiskey to allow some of the flavors to open up and take some of the edge off the Bourbon/Scotch. Hence there is no reason for a child to be using them. Additionally as for hitting them your teeth, again these are not ice cubes and if you are chugging your whiskey, well good on yah mate but these is not for you.

My girlfriend bought me these because I like to enjoy a Bourbon after work. After putting 3 stones in a glass and waiting, the stones put a slight chill on the Bourbon. They didn't cool the whiskey down so much as to subdue the flavor. It just chilled it some to take the edge the off and made a very pleasant drink, not watered down. I recommend this if you have someone who enjoys a good glass whiskey straight.

Very happy with them!

As other reviewers have noted, these are meant to chill whiskey stored at room temperature only slightly, to help suppress the ethanol aroma and make the drink smoother and more pleasant. If you often drink whiskey straight, you'll probably appreciate this effect; if you drink your whiskey on the rocks or in mixed drinks, these probably won't do anything for you.
I will say, however, that the effect is just as useful on other sipping liquors; I've used these with vodkas, gins, and tequilas with success. Just don't expect them to be ice cubes; if you want your drink freezing cold, put it in the freezer.

3.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware, Important Information, October 20, 2011

Not saying these stones are bad or good...just be careful who you purchase from. After buying from Syntex Wholesale, I found out these were not the Teroforma Whisky Stones that I was trying to buy, but in fact random generic whisky stones. I have bought Teroforma whisky rocks before, however when I bought these to give as a gift I found these were not Teroforma. The packaging looks like it was printed in some guy's basement. You would be embarrassed if you gave this as a gift to someone, and your credit card would be embarrassed if you spent $19.50 on them. Some selected gems from the writing on the box:

-"Who need ice ?"
-"Dimension: 2 x 2 x 2 cm." (this should be a good indication of where the stones came from).
-"Cut from recycled soap stone or granite." (Having bought a set of whisky stones from Teroforma, I know that they come from they come from a soapstone mill in Vermont. And they don't mix granite in them).
-"Georeous eco-friendly gift... Read more
